Expect A Lot

Teenagers are our society's next top model. They are the next generation of adults. Without these teens, there would be no next generation. So, we must provide these teenagers with the means to survive in the real world. Now, this can come across as being mean or overly protective. It all depends on how the parenting is done. Some parents do expect too much from their children. Others choose to not expect anything, which can lead to the child being unprepared for what is to come.
Children need to be taught the life lessons before they are to be expected of anything. They need a chance to prove that they can handle it, along with the opportunity to fail and try again. These are just a few things that must be done before parents can expect anything from their growing children. Without these, the teenagers can grow up without any knowledge of how to thrive in the real world.
To know something, you must be taught. So, the main goal for parents, in raising their children, should be to teach them what it means to be an adult. Which are how to hold true to your responsibilities, how to be honest, and how to follow through with your actions and words. There are far more goals parents should have then these, but these may just be the most important.
Sometimes, a child can be taught how to do all those things listed above, but never get the opportunity to use what he or she has learned. This can result in a bigger loss then never being taught anything. So, these parents should put their child in a situation where they can prove their knowledge. Not a test where failure is not an option, but a test where they can see what else needs to be taught. Such as helping them get a part-time job, or giving them responsibilities like a pet or a household chore.

Parents who don't raise their children with this knowledge are expecting too much from them. Parents who are raising their children with the knowledge and ability to accomplish their duties, are raising mature, honorable, and proud young men and women. These young men and women should be expected to do great things. They were built with such a solid foundation, that they not only are prepared for the real world, but they can conquer it.
